OUR STORY

Hi, I’m Amy.

I’m the owner of Amy Hibbard Photography and Uzuri, which I co-own with my husband, Paul. Uzuri is a Swahili word meaning beauty and goodness—my husband’s language, and a reminder of what this work is really about.

Before founding Uzuri, my work was solely focused on fashion photography—telling stories through styling, light, and emotion. That background is still such a big part of what I do today. But motherhood changed the way I saw my work and the world around me.

Becoming a mother was both beautiful and challenging for my sense of identity. It made me want to speak up for mothers—and for families. So often, family life is dismissed as messy, outdated, irrelevant, or something to apologise for. I wanted to make families feel relevant again by representing them in a way that was tasteful, considered, and true to who they are.

I also realised it was possible to bring an editorial approach to photographing real families and real people—photography that feel honest, personal, and artfully done. I wanted to offer photography with the same creative direction, styling, and storytelling I used in my fashion work, but in a way that genuinely reflects each family’s own style and story.

What I love most about this work is how versatile it can be. Whether it’s a polished editorial portrait, a raw, grainy film breastfeeding shot, or anything in between—I want every client to look at their results and think yes, that’s us.

Today, Uzuri is a family-run business. Paul and I are so proud of the trust our clients place in us to tell their stories. Whether you’re a family, a founder, or a brand, we’re here to help you create something personal, meaningful, and one of a kind.

  • "They really captured the true nature of our family and of me as a woman. I felt like the best version of myself in the pictures. It is impossible to pick a favourite but the shot of the boys together almost moved me to tears. It is a beautiful moment of love between two brothers. They often bicker and fight over toys, but in that shot there is nothing but pure affection and love for each other"

The photos were stunning and beautifully captured our family’s personality and love. Seeing the final images was such a joy, and we were all thrilled with how they turned out. You are such an amazing photographer and have captured our family so beautifully. Thank you - truly the best gift i could ask for!”

  • "The experience felt like a documentary as opposed to a photo shoot. And the photos show just that - me, mother to Remy, chasing after him and having a fun time. I absolutely love our photos. It looks like us on a normal day at home, exactly how I wanted it. These are the moments, the small and seemingly insignificant moments that tend to blend in time that I wanted to remember. And now I can. Thank you Uzuri"

  • "Amy helped me come out of my shell in very subtle ways around my home and on location, nothing ever felt forced. I just love how my pictures turned out and it’s a reflection of Amy’s subtle cues and creative ideas. Following my pregnancy shoot, i had a family shoot and i’m so obsessed with these photos. Uzuri captured these special moments so perfectly and i will always cherish these photos!”
